I can almost forget everything you taught me

I can almost forget the violence

I can almost forget when Dad abandoned me

I can almost forget your presence

I can almost forget the housing projects we live in

I can almost forget your ideas about my skin

I can almost forget how to make a living on the street

Probation officer tells me I can beat

This crazy life of defeat

Says I can get a new life

If only I can forget

I can almost forget

I can almost forget the hunger in my belly

I can almost forget the fear that reigns inside

I can almost forget my life been denied

I can almost forget people don't like my kind of skin

I can almost forget you said I could never win

I can almost forget my heart crying within

I can almost forget that I'm only ten

Probation officer tells me I can beat

This crazy life of defeat

Says I can get a new life

If only I can forget

I can almost forget
