Oh, the innocence

Oh, the irony

When you are on stage with her

And I really like her

And I really like you

and I know the two of you are happy together

And you're reading the play

"Oh, the Innocence"

About the best friend

Who likes his wife

About the women who secuces him

With her dress unzipped

And I find myself wanting to get closer to you

My friends I came with

Were teasing me on the way over

About being too innocent

Oh, the irony

That the play was

"Oh, the Innocence"

And I find myself wanting to be closer to you

The next day when the phone rang

And I heard your voice

I felt vibration in my heart

And hung up the phone

Wanting to call back

And ask your girlfriend to go to the beach

But I couldn't because

I find myself wanting to get closer to you

The next day when the phone rang

And I heard your voice

I felt vibrations in my heart

Hung up the phone

Rushed to throw on a dress

Before you arrive

But you were there so soon

I didn't have time to zip up my dress

"Oh, the Innocence"

comes to mind

And I laugh to myself

Oh, the irony

That I find myself wanting to be closer to you
